Standards
Content Knowledge and Expertise. Teachers exhibit a comprehensive understanding of their content, discipline, and related pedagogy as demonstrated through the quality of the design and execution of lessons and their ability to match objectives and activities to relevant state standards. When planning my lessons, I always got to the TEKS first and plan my lesson around those. I make sure that the activities and assessments match the TEKS that are covered in the lesson. For example when I taught a lesson on prediction and connections, the students did an activity where they connected the book to their life and prodded what might happen based on text and picture clues.

Data-Driven Practice. Teachers use formal and informal methods to assess student growth aligned to instructional goals and course objectives and regularly review and analyze multiple sources of data to measure student progress and adjust instructional strategies and content delivery as needed. In fifth grade me and my mentor teacher used a summative assessment, which is the example which is give under my assessment sample in my portfolio. Also after my lesson I used an exit ticket to asses what students had learned.
|
Knowledge of Students and Student Learning. Teachers work to ensure high levels of learning, social-emotional development, and achievement outcomes for all students, taking into consideration each student's educational and developmental backgrounds and focusing on each student's needs. In my Kindergarten clinical teaching class that were different learning levels for students in the class. When I planned my lessons, I included things like books, songs, charts, and examples, to take in consideration students background and current levels.
|
Instructional Planning and Delivery. Teachers demonstrate their understanding of instructional planning and delivery by providing standards-based, data-driven, differentiated instruction that engages students, makes appropriate use of technology, and makes learning relevant for today’s learners.
In my clinical teaching of grades Kindergarten and Fifth grade, I used technology in the classroom. For fifth grade I delivered my lesson on financial literacy on a smart board. In Kindergarten we used the website Pop Brain to show students about the life cycle of a butterfly.
|
Learning Environment. Teachers interact with students in respectful ways at all times, maintaining a physically and emotionally safe, supportive learning environment that is characterized by efficient and effective routines, clear expectations for student behavior, and organization that maximizes student learning.
The fifth grade classroom was a big family. There were rules and expectations set up to respect everyone. This was included in the 5th grade mission statement. When something went wrong we would have "family meetings" so everyone could speak on their feelings and problems.
