About Me:
I graduated from Prairie View A&M University May 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a minor in English. Before starting the MEd program at Houston Baptist University, I worked for a non profit organization that worked with students in lower economic areas. I also was an assistant teacher at a private school. Working as an assistant teacher sparked my interest in getting my Master's degree in Education. I graduated from Houston Baptist University in May 2016 and began my first year of teaching in August 2016. I am currently a 2nd grade teacher at Kelso Elementary and it has been a joy to help students grow in knowledge.
Philosophy of Education:
Collin’s English Dictionary defines to educate as “to impart knowledge by formal
instruction, to a pupil: to teach”. The purpose of education goes beyond learning how to
read, write, and do math. There are many aspects of education. I believe that education is
to help students develop and grow in knowledge; to enhance social skills and provide
opportunities for future endeavors. I also believe education should guide and encourage
students to achieve great things. Education should be provided to everyone. The learning
environment should include all students and teaching should be done in a process that can
be modified and reach all students. Teaching is just not about standing in front of the
classroom and lecturing. Teaching should have a structure that can help students learn
information, but be able to change if the student is not learning. I believe teaching should
involve guiding the students towards a goal they want to achieve. My goal is to provide a
learning environment that is diverse. I believe in providing the core curriculum, but I also
want them to have hands on experience when learning. I believe that I am not only a
teacher, but I am also their guide to achieving knowledge. I want my students to be
involved in their learning process and be happy about it. I feel that I should provide an
environment that is respectful and is open to everyone. My students should not only grow
in knowledge, but also grow within themselves.
